About this requirement
Not every portal uses the same passport, exam, signature, or document size. Custom dimensions let you type the exact width, height, and maximum KB value printed on the form so you are not forced into a generic preset.
Copy the numbers carefully: width first, then height, then format and file-size limit. A single swapped digit can cause an automatic rejection even when the photo itself looks fine. If the form lists millimetres only, convert using the DPI guidance in our passport photo guide or ask the issuing office for pixel values.
After processing, verify the downloaded file properties on your device. Confirm width, height, format, and size match the checklist, then compare the visual crop with any sample image the portal provides.
Detailed guidance
Write down width, height, maximum KB, and allowed formats. Note any rules about background color, recent photos, or scanned signatures. Enter those values in the editor instead of approximating from memory or from a different application’s requirements.
Custom sizes only work when the crop matches the required ratio. If you force a subject into the wrong shape, the portal may stretch the image. Adjust the crop frame until the subject fits naturally inside the required width-to-height relationship.
Set the KB target to the portal maximum or slightly below. Start with higher quality and reduce only as needed. For mixed content such as a photo of a signed form, prioritize text readability over perfect skin detail.
If your numbers are close to a common preset, open that preset page for composition tips, then switch to custom and type the exact portal values. The educational guidance still applies even when the pixel numbers differ.
You can open the custom tool with width and height in the URL query string when those parameters are provided by the site links. Otherwise, keep the portal instructions nearby and re-enter the numbers each time for accuracy.
Type pixels unless the editor explicitly asks for another unit. Convert millimetre print sizes to pixels using the DPI the portal specifies, or use the values published in the digital upload section of the form.
